Benjamin Labonosky III “Ben”, 82, of Colchester, passed away after a brief illness at the UConn Medical Center in Farmington on April 25, 2016.
Born in Pringle, PA on July 24, 1933, he was a son of the late Benjamin and Lottie Labonosky, Jr. He served proudly in the US Army during the Korean War and later became a member of the VFW and American Legion in Colchester. He was married to Eleanor Zisk who predeceased him in 1964. Ben later married Marion Clark who predeceased him April 24, 2013. He was well known and loved by many in the Colchester community where he lived, raised his family and built his business. For several decades, Ben worked as a Union Carpenter. He later owned and operated the Country Café, most recently known as Benjamin’s Restaurant in Colchester with his family. He enjoyed fishing, playing pool, gaming, boxing and animals. Most importantly, he will be remembered by his family as a devoted and hard-working family man.
Survivors include three children, Benjamin IV, Stephen (Joanne Halpern), Susanne (John) Zahacefski, all of Colchester; a brother, William Labonosky of Cromwell; a sister, Anna Mae Labonosky of Middletown; seven grandchildren, Jamie, Jessica and Shane Labonosky; Taylor and Kyle Zahacefski, Noah Garfield, Corey Cote and numerous extended family and friends.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 1st from 1 – 3 pm at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd,. Colchester. Military honors will be rendered at the funeral home at 3pm. Donations in his memory may be made to the VA Medical Center, 555 Willard Ave., Newington 06111.
